Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the wearproof of a magnetic layer and increase its durability by using fluid paraffin and solid paraffin together with non-magnetic material powder with Mohs' hardness of 6 and more.
CONSTITUTION: Non-magnetic material powder with Mohs' hardness of 6 and more and average particle size of 0.5 to 2μ, such as α-iron oxide, is mixed together with magnetic powder, binder, organic solvent, and other appropriate components. This magnetic coating material is coated on a substrate, so that a magnetic layer is formed. The solution of the mixture of fluid paraffin and solid paraffin with the rate of 1/9 to 6/4 is coated on the magnetic layer. Or the mixture may be added to the magnetic coating material. It is desirable that the quantity of addition of the non- magnetic powder to the magnetic powder is 1 to 3wt% and the total quantity of addition of paraffin to the magnetic coating material is 0.1 to 20wt%.
