Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect an ignition time delay without disassembling the diesel engine by a method wherein a fuel injection point and a fuel explosion point are detected from the distortion of a fuel injection pipe and from the mechanical vibratory acceleration of the engine body. CONSTITUTION:The expansion of the fuel injection pipe varying with fuel injection is detected by a detector 1 such as a distortion gauge pick up and the signal from the detector 1 is applied on a comparator 6 through an amplifier 3 where it is compared with a predetermined voltage Vo. Thus, when the detected signal is higher than the voltage Vo, a set signal is outputted to FF7. The FF7 generates an output in synchronism with the rise of the set signal so that an AND circuit 8 is operated and the pulse from a clock pulse generator 9 is applied on a counter 10. At the same time, the mechanical vibratory acceleration of the engine body is detected by a detector 2 such as a vibratory acceleration pick up. The detected signal from the detector 2 is received by FF7 as a reset signal through the amplifier 4. The AND circuit 8 is held inoperative through the resetting of the FF7 and the counting by the counter 10 is stopped. Further, the signal from the amplifier 4 is applied on a latch circuit 11 to latch the value of counting by the counter 10 so that the ignition delay time is displayed on a display 12.
