Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the gelation of a crosslinkable composition due to moisture during storage and to make water supply during extrusion unnecessary, by adding, to the composition, an anhydride of an inorganic salt characterized by having strong hygroscopicity at normal temperature and releasing water of crystallization at high temperatures.
CONSTITUTION: An anhydride of an inorganic salt characterized by having a high rate of water absorption at normal temperature and liberating water of crystallization in the temperature range: 100W180°C, e.g., sodium sulfate, magnesium sulfate, is added to a rubber or plastic composition which crosslinks in the presence of moisture, so that the moisture contained in the composition is absorbed by the inorganic salt added is preferably about 1W5pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. rubber or plastic. it is possible to prevent initiation of crosslinking during storage, to crooslink the composition by use of the water of crystallization liberated from the inorganic salt during extrusion, with consequent elimination of water supply.
