Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an alkylene glycol diether, by the reaction of an ether having a lower alkyl group with an alkylene oxide in the presence of fluorosulfonic acid, trifluoromethanesulfonic acid or an ester, anhydride thereof, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A mono- or polyalkylene glycol diether is obtained by the reaction of a compound of formula I (R1 is 1W2C alkyl; R2 is 1W12C straight chain alkyl, phenyl, aralkyl etc.; m is an integer 1W4; n is an integer 0W8) and a compound of formula II (R3 is halogen substituted or unsubstituted 1W5C alkyl or phenyl) or formula III (l is an integer 0W5) in the presence of any one of fluorosulfonic acid, trifluoromethansulfonic acid, an ester, anhydride thereof, etc.
EFFECT: A high reaction rate and no formation of undesirable by-products.
USE: Polar solvents, ion polymerizing catalysts, and trapping agents of acidic gases.
