Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain manganese dioxide with a high utilizing efficiency of used energy, by heating recrystallized manganese nitrate dielectrically.
CONSTITUTION: A manganse carbonate ore is dissolved in nitric acid and filtered to remove insoluble substances. The resultant purified manganese nitrate is then concentrated under heating and allowed to cool to deposit crystals thereof. The resultant crystals are then centrifuged, and the crystals separated from the solution are recrystallized to remove impurities and give graunlar manganese nitrate. The resultant manganese nitrate is heated dielectrically to release NOx and produce manganese dioxide. The formed manganese dioxide is then finely pulverized, by a roller mill, washed with hot water and neutralized with an aqueous solution of an alkali to adjust the pH and give the final product having the adjusted grain size. The dielectric heating is carried out with microwave irradiation, and the residual moisture content in the product can be changed freely.
