Abstract
PURPOSE: To grind the surface of a slate at a high efficiency by invariably bringing a grinding tool into contact therewith in the direction of normal line while keeping a distance between the surface of the slate and a rotating shaft thereof constant irrelevant to the curvature thereof.
CONSTITUTION: A retaining frame 40 supporting a slate S rotates about a horizontal rotating shaft 41 with a motor 53 and gears 51 and 52. A moving base 60 carrying these components thereon moves horizontally on a rail 61 with a motor 62 at the right angle to the rotating shaft 41. Gears 76 and 77 are mounted rotatively on a bracket 71 integral with the rotating shaft 41 and meshed with a gear 78 in which the rotation of the gear 77 is checked against a housing while three proximity switches are mounted on a shaft of the gear 76. The rotation of the retaining frame 40 and the horizontal movement of the moving base 60 are controlled based on the relative position of the bracket 71 to a profile gauge 90 detected by this whereby a grinding tool R is invariably brought into contact with the slate in the direction of normal line.
