Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a grinder which removes burr from the cut-off end face of steel so that the degree of finishing of the end face in high and no adverse influence is exerted upon the lifetime of a grinding mechansim.
CONSTITUTION: Steel 1 is conveyed by a conveyor and secured in a prescribed position. The detection plate 34 of an angle detector 26 is moved up by a vertically driving cylinder 37 to such a state that the detection plate can be brought into contact with the end face 2 of the steel 1. The detection plate 34 is then moved leftward together with a slide base 24 along guide rails 23. When the detection plate 34 is brought into contact with the end face 2 and tilted along the inclination angle of the face, a base frame 16 is turned along an arc-shaped rail 12 centering a rotation shaft 15 so that a grinding mechanism 25 secured on the slide base 24 is turned together. As a result, the grinding face of a grinding head 29 can be positioned in paralles with the end face 2 to be ground.
