Abstract
PURPOSE:To recognize a character accurately, by displaying a candidate character resembling a read character when a hand written character is read and by editing a character, which is input on a basis of said candidate character, as a correct answer character. CONSTITUTION:A hand written character 20a on a read medium 20 is grasped as light and shade by a sensor 3, and an output corresponding to the light and shade is sent to a positioning circuit 7 through an electronic circuit 6. The circuit 7 outputs a received signal to a feature extracting circuit 10 and a character picture memory 9. The circuit 10 extracts features for every one character of the character signal to generate a feature string and outputs it to a collating circuit 12. The circuit 12 selects a feature string from the circuit 10 which coinciding with that in the feature strings accumulated in a dictionary 11 as a candidate character and outputs it to a register 13. The feature string from the circuit 10 and feature strings in the dictionary 11 are compared with each other to select a correct answer character coinciding with the character 20a. The correct answer character from a keyboard is edited together with the correct answer character from the register in an editing circuit 17, and the result is output to 19 in the correct from coinciding with the character 20a.
