Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled oscillator with small size and excellent frequency temperature characteristics, by cutting out piezoelectric elements of almost rod shape having two flat planes from a piezoelectric material plate in parallel with the X axis-Z' axis plane, by using a grinder having a plurality of concave semicircular shaped grooves. CONSTITUTION:A flat plate of an element performing thickness slip oscillation, e.g. a quarty plate 1 having (t) thickness cut out with AT-cut is bonded on a glass stand 5 placed on a moving bed 3 in the direction of arrows 2 and 2A. Further, a grinder 4 which has a plurality of grooves 6 having a cross section of concaved semicircle in W diameter greater than the thickness (t) and rotates in the direction of the arrow, is used. A cut length (l) is taken as <=t/2, remaining flat planes. A quartz plate is then inversed and cut in the same way and a plurality of quartz rods in which they are almost in rod shape and the flat planes are in parallel, can be obtained. The linked parts are then folded into separation and the circumferential planes are polished with a cylindrical lapping machine, then drive electrodes are formed on both the flat planes, and both the ends of the rods are provided with holding terminals. Thus, an oscillator in which W/t is constant, the size is small and the ccuracy is excellent, can be obtained.
