PURPOSE:To improve reproduced image density and resolution by subjecting a magnetic recording medium to digital magnetization, modulating a laser beam in accordance with image information, irradiating this beam onto the magnetized medium and demagnetizing the irradiated part. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic recording sheet 1 formed with a magnetic layer 2 of low curie point such as CrO2 on a base 3 is mounted on a cylinder or the like, and while it is being rotated in the direction of an arrow A, the magnetic field of which the direction inverts and changes digitally is acted upon the gap 5a of a magnetic head 5, whereby the sheet is subjected to digital inversion magnetization 4 in the direction shown by arrows.
