PURPOSE:To simplify constitution and improve response by connecting a brake assisting apparatus so that a main cylinder operates in the direction of brake band tightening in proportion to the generated pressure of a pilot cylinder. CONSTITUTION:When a pedal 36 is stepped on, a piston 32 shifts rightward, and also a piston 33 shifts rightward. The piston 33 shifts rightward by the amount of play in a band 21 and a lever 22. When the shift of piston 33 covers the play completely, a pilot pressure P1 is generated in a pilot cylinder 34, forcing the band 21 to be tightened by the pressure P1, while the pressure P1 is transmitted to a cylinder 39. When the pressure P1 exceeds the pressing force of a spring 44, a piston 43 shifts rightward, to force a proportional pressure control valve 25 to be operated through a rod 45, and thus a secondary pressure P2 is generated. A main cylinder 23 is operated by the secondary pressure P2, and the lever 22 is turned counterclockwise, to tighten the brake band 21, and thus brake power is generated.
