CONSTITUTION:An optical lens barrel 3 is provided with an auxiliary illumination lamp 7. In pattern recognition, the image of a semiconductor chip 5 is formed on the image pickup surface of an ITV camera 1 via an objective lens 4, and the picture is converted to an electric signal for pattern recognition. When the pattern recognition is not executed, the optical lens barrel 3 moves from the part over the chip 5 and the image pickup surface of the ITV camera 1 is irradiated with light from an auxiliary illumination lamp 7 through polished glass 8 for diffusion. Consequently, a stable video signal is obtained from the moment the camera returns to a recognition position.
