Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the density of NOx in the exhaust gas of the engine and improve the fuel consumption thereof by a method wherein a feedback control is stopped when the engine is being operated in a low load and a poor mixture having the air to fuel ratio larger than the logical air to fuel ratio is supplied to the engine.
CONSTITUTION: An air bleed conduit 16 is connected to a main fuel nozzle 10 provided in a small venturi 9 and another air bleed conduit 30 is connected to a slow port 25 provided at the vicinity of a throttle valve 7 respectively while proportional actuators 17, 31 are connected to each conduits 16, 30 respectively. These actuators 17, 31 are controlled by a computer 24 in accordance with the output of an exhaust sensor 40 and thereby controlling the amount of air bleed or the air to fuel ratio. Here, the computer 24 is constituted so as to computer the time average of the air to fuel ratio during normal operations while to increase the amount of the air bleed based on said average air to fuel ratio when the low load operation time excluding an idling time is detected by the outputs of negative pressure switches 74, 79 and an idling switch 77.
