Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain water-atomized powder of high-alloy steel for powder metallurgy by water-atomizing molten steel having high Cr, Mo, Ni and Co contents to a specified grain size so as to attain high green density.
CONSTITUTION: Steel consisting of, by.wt., ≤0.40% C, ≤1.50% Si, ≤0.40% Mn, ≤1.00% O2, 10W40% Cr, 3W20% Mo, 3W40% Ni and/or Co and ≤50% Fe is prepd. This molten steel is pulverized by a water atomizing method to obtain atomized steel powder having <80 mesh grain size, 2.00W3.20g/cm3 apparent density and ≥6g/cm3 green density under 7t/cm2 molding pressure. By molding a mixture of about 10W50% this steel powder, pure iron powder, etc. and carrying out sintering, a sintered product with heat and wear resistance is manufactured.
