Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure the fluidic characteristics of a fluid-state substance over a wide range of rates of shearing strain in a short period of time by providing a slit die with a plurality of pressure sensors in the flowing direction of a sample, obtaining a pressure gradient, and controlling the extrusion speed of a plunger. CONSTITUTION:A plunger 12 is lowered at a constant speed by means of a hydraulic servo pump 24 through a hydraulic cylinder 11 in order to control the apparent rate of shearing strain. The pressure of the sample in a slit die 14 at this time is detected by means of a plurality of pressure sensors 16 and sent through a pressure amplifier 17 to a microcomputer 18. From the pressure signals, a pressure gradient is calculated, the outlet pressure of the slit die 14 is estimated in order to obtain the elastic characteristics of the sample, and the viscosity of a steady flow is calculated from the flow rate obtained from the pressure signals and the descending speed of the plunger 12 and printed by means of an input/output device 19. Then, the microcomputer 18 orders a function generator 20 to transmit a signal corresponding to another rate of shearing strain, causing a differential servo amplifier 23 to be driven to control the speed of the plunger 12.
