Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare cuprous oxide having improved pigment characteristics through its precipitation, by reducing a waste liquor obtained after the etching of a copper plate using an aqueous solution of cupric chloride into a salt aqueous solution of cuprous chloride, followed by adjusting it to a pH in a specific range with an alkali aqueous solution.
CONSTITUTION: A waste liquor obtained by etching a copper plate using an aqueous solution of cupric chloride, comprising 0.1W200g/l Cu, 0W300g/l NaCl, and 3W100g/l free hydrochloric acid, is heated to 50°C, air is introduced to the solution so that cuprous ion contained is oxidized into cupric ion. NaCl and HCl are then added to the solution, which is brought into contact with metal copper in nitrogen flow so that cupric chloride is reduced into cuprous chloride, to give a salt aqueous solution of cuprous chloride comprising 50W100g/l Cu, 230W280g/l NaCl, and 0.01W10g/l free hydrochloric acid. An aqueous solution of NaOH is added to the salt aqueous solution, which is adjusted to pH 8.5W12.5 to precipitate cuprous oxide, which is collected from the aqueous solution.
