Abstract

PURPOSE:To secure a high damping effect at a high temperature in the damper for absorbing vibrations occurring in a rotary shaft, in which a viscous oil is sealed within a gap between an inertia wheel and a housing by designing the gap to be able to expand and contract in accordance with variations in the temperature. CONSTITUTION:The torsional damper comprises the housing 1 and the inertia wheel 2 housed within the housing with the gap 4 interposed therebetween. Within the gap 4, silicon oil 3 is sealed. In order to make the gap 4 to be able to expand and contract in accordance with the variations in the temperature, the inertia wheel 2 is preferably made of a material or an alloy of materials having a large thermal expansion coefficient, such as aluminum, lead, tin and zinc. Otherwise, a plate of a material having a large thermal coefficient may be placed within the gap 4. According to such a construction, a decrease in the viscosity of the viscous fluid to occur at a high temperature can self-compensate, thereby securing a good damping effect at a high temperature.
