Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a coating compsn. which is useful as a surface treating agent for enhancing chemical resistance and surface hardness of wooden articles, metal goods, etc. and in which a coating film formed can easily be dyed, by mixing two kinds of film-forming resin components together.
CONSTITUTION: A substrate such as a polycarbonate product is coated with a compsn. contg. a hydrolyzate (A) of a Si compd. of formula I (wherein R1 is an org. group contg. epoxy group; R2 is H, a 1W6C hydrocarbon group, vinyl group; R3 is a 1W5C hydrocarbon group. alkoxyalkyl, 1W4C alkyl; a is 1W3, b is 0W2 with the proviso that a+b≤3), a component (B) selected from an alkyl-etherified methylolmelamine, urea (or a compd. thereof), and an aliph, or arom. epoxy compd. or a polymer of formula II [wherein R4, R5 are each H, lower alkyl, COOH; X is COOH, or a side chain contg. (substd.) amino or cyano group] and a curing catalyst (C). Then the coated substrate is baked at a temperature not higher than the deformation temp. of the substrate to form a coating film. This film can be dyed with a disperse dye dispersed in water by a conventional method.
