Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an resin composition capable of providing a cured resin excellent in heat resistance, mechanical properties and electrical properties, by mixing a m-isopropenylphenyl glycidyl ether with a polyfunctional isocyanate compound.
CONSTITUTION: A thermosetting resin composition prepared by mixing a m-isopropenylphenyl glycidyl ether of the formula, wherein R and R' are each H or methyl, with a polyfunctional isocyanate. Said m-isopropenylphenyl glycidyl ether forms a polymer in the presence of heat or an acidic substance through the polymerization of isopropenyl groups, whereas the glycidyl groups of the m-isopropenylphenyl glycidyl ether react with the isocyanato groups of the polyfunctional isocyanate compound to form oxazoline rings. Moreover, the isocyanato groups themselves trimerize to form polyisocyanurate rings. Simultaneous progress of these reactions makes it possible to produce a cured product excellent in heat resistance, mechanical properties and electrical properties.
