Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a toothpaste composition having a slight reduction in viscosity with time by an enzyme capable of hydrolyzing cellulose and good shape retaining property, by incorporating CMC-Na having specific physical properties as a binder in the composition. CONSTITUTION:A toothpaste composition obtained by incorporating CMC-Na having an etherification degree (degree of substitution) >=1.2 and a viscosity >=20cP at 25 deg.C in a 1W/V% aqueous solution as a binder therein. Preferably, CMC-Na having an etherification degree of 1.3-1.75 and a viscosity of 100-400cP of an aqueous solution is used as the binder. The mixing ratio of the CMC-Na is 3.5wt% or less, preferably 1.0-2.5wt%. The CMC-Na used as the binder in the conventional toothpaste rarely causes the softening phenomenon (the reduction in viscosity and shape retention with time); however, the titled composition will not cause the softening phenomenon and has improved feeling of use.
