Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a thermoplastic resin compsn. having a ground glass-like agreeable appearance and suitable for use in the production of injection molded articles, by dispersing calcium carbonate and mica in a rigid, clear thermoplastic resin.
CONSTITUTION: 0.5W5.0pts.wt., pref. 1.0W2.0pts.wt. calcium carbonate and 0.05W 1.5pts.wt., pref. 0.2W0.4pts.wt. mica are uniformly dispersed in 100pts.wt. rigid, clear thermoplastic resin. Said rigid, clear thermoplastic resin includes thermoplastic resins having a Rockwell hardness on M scale of 75 or above and a visible light transmission of 80% or above. Examples of said resins are polystyrene, an acrylonitrile/styrene copolymer and polymethyl methacrylate. When the amount of calcium carbonate is less than 0.5pts.wt. and that of mica is less than 0.05pts.wt., light transmission is too high to obtain a ground glass-like appearance. When the former exceeds 5.0pts.wt. and the latter exceeds 1.5pts.wt., light is exceedingly intercepted. Thus, such amounts are not preferred.
