Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an extremely small-sized optical connector which changes transmission directions by combining centered sleeves by crossing their axial centers to themselves so that axial alignment can be made simply by inserting fibers into the sleeves. CONSTITUTION:The 1st sleeve 2 having a hole 1 for passing an optical fiber at its center is made of ceramics or the like, and one end thereof is tapered. The 2nd sleeve 4 having a hole 3 for passing an optical fiber at its center is also made of ceramics or the like. The 2nd sleeve 4 is butted to the side face on the rear side of the tapered surface of the 1st sleeve 2, by which the axisl lines are orthogonally intersected with each other. The 1st and 2nd sleeves 2, 4 are held in a housing 6. The leading end of an optical fiber 8 to be passed through the hole 1 of the 1st sleeve 2 is tapered 8a at 45 deg.. Hence, the light transmitted through an optical fiber 9 totally reflects on the tapered surfce 8a, by which its direction is changed 90 deg., and this light is transmitted by the fiber 8. By such constitution, the extremely small-sized optical connector that changes transmission direction is obtained.
