Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled composition is prepared by using, as major components, a carbohydrate capable of gelling, which is extracted from seaweeds, such as agar or carrageenin, a colorant, a moisture absorbing agent and water, thus causing no ink leakage by vibration and shock and ensuring the smooth flow of ink.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A carbohydrate capable of gelling, which is extracted from seaweeds such as agar or carrageenin, (B) a colorant such as water-soluble dye, e.g., acid dye or basic dye or pigment, e.g., titanium oxide or carbon black, (C) a moisture-absorbing agent such as ethylene glycol, and water are mixed as major component to give the objective composition. The proportions of the components in the composition is 0.05W5.0wt% in component (A), 0.01W2.0wt% in component (B), when a water-soluble dye is used, or 1W20wt%, when a pigment is employed, 5W40wt% in component (C) and 45W95wt% in water.
USE: It is suitably used for marking pens or ball point pens in which the ink is filled in an end-open cylinder.
