Abstract

PURPOSE: Immobilized microorganism cells are used to effect the reaction between D-p-hydroxyphenylglycine and 6-aminopenicillanic acid of the formula, thus producing the objective compound readily in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: A water-soluble unsaturated monomer such as acrylamide, a water- soluble polyfunctional unsaturated monomer such as N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide, and the cells of a microorganism in Alcaligenes or Aerococcus or an aqueous suspension or solution containing the cell extract are mixed and the water-in-oil type suspension polymerization is conducted in an organic solvent insoluble in both the above unsaturated monomers and water in the presence of a high-polymer dispersant to prepare the immobilized cells or extraction agent. D-p-hydroxyphenylglycine or its ester and 6-aminopenicillanic acid of the formula or a 7-amino-cephalosporanic acid derivative are made to react in the presence of the immobilized enzyme in a buffer solution.
