Abstract
PURPOSE:To maintain the proper tape rate of the short sides of molds at high accuracy and eliminate the action of extraordinary forces upon the device after changing of ingot width by providing pins which are freely turnable in the axial direction of forward-backward moving rods in one place to one of two upper and lower forward-backward moving rods and in two places to the other. CONSTITUTION:The upper cylinder 6A out of forward-backward moving rod cylinders 6 which are cylinders for driving short sides in which forward-backward moving rods 2 push and pull is fixed in the position similar to that in the conventional device, and is connected to the short side 1 of the mold by a connecting pin 4A by way of a rod 2A. On the other hand, the lower cylinder 6B is mounted rotatably in the axial direction and position-fixedly by providing, for example, a revolving shaft 12. Then, if it is assumed that the cylinder 6B is installed in parallel with 6A where the short side 1 is perpendicular, and when the strokes of the rods 2A, 2B are so adjusted as to obtain the taper of the short side 1 conforming to the width of the ingot during casting, the cylinder 6B rotates by theta1 upward in the axial direction of the cylinder 6B around the shaft 12. Hence, the rods 2A, 2B and the cylinders 6A, 6B are no more required to withstand the load for the purpose of following-up the distance difference between the connecting pins 4A and 4B.
