Abstract
PURPOSE:To roll the steel sheet into a uniform thickness, and to improve the durability of the rolling mill, by building up the work roll of a two-stage rolling mill or the backup roll of a multistage rolling mill into a construction whereby the axial line of the shell maintains the straight line during the steel sheet is passes through the roll gap and the axial center is fixed while only the shell rotates. CONSTITUTION:In the work roll of a two-stage rolling mill or the backup roll of a multistage rolling mill, a cylindrical shell 2 and to journals 3 for bearing this shell 2 freely rotatably are installed. The annular clearance 7 formed between the inner surface of the shell 2 and the outer surface of the journal 3 is divided into two semicircular sections with the use of sealing members 8, and hereby the pressure chamber 4 is formed. This pressure chamber 4 is communicated to the oil source through the oil-path 5 provided in the journals 3; then, the pressurizes oil is supplied through the oil-path 5 into the pressure chamber 4 wherein the oil pressure is generated so that the shell 2 is bent and the journal 3 is bent opposite to the shell 2; hereby the gap between two rolls is adjusted to a uniform size during the steel sheet is passed through the roll gap.
