Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform independent evaluation of low grade coal per se by evaluating the quality of coke from the strength difference of the gasified coke determined by changing gasifying reaction time while blowing gaseous CO2 to coke grains. CONSTITUTION:Low grade coal is heat-treated by a method resembling to that for production of coke for blast furnaces, after which it is ground and grain components 1-2mm. are sieved and are used as test sample. This test sample is caused to react for a fixed time by blowing gaseous CO2 from the lower part at the velocity at which the fluid condition of the sample is produced, in a vertical reaction tube which is maintained at a constant temp. of 1,050 deg.C atmosphere temp. Further, the strengths with the respective gasified samples of different rates of reaction obtained by changing the reaction time are measured. The strength values corresponding to 10% and 25% rates of reaction are accurately read from the straight line obtained by plotting the respective strength values obtained at this time on a drawing with respect to the corresponding rates of reation, and the difference in the strength values of both is taken as an index to indicate the hot characteristics as coal for coke raw material
