Abstract

PURPOSE: To accurately detect a power-factor, by appropriately inverting the polarity of the rectified wave of a sinusoidal voltage signal depending on a logical level signal, which is generated by the conversion of the voltage signal and a current signal, and by effecting synthesis.
CONSTITUTION: The positive portion of a sinusoidal voltage signal 1a is rectified by a rectifier circuit 1 to produce a signal 1b. Rectangular waves 2a are generated by a wave form conversion circuit 2. The wave form of a current signal 6a having a phase difference of ϕ from the voltage signal is changed at 6 to generate a signal 6b. In a synthesis circuit 3, the polarity of the signal 1b is inverted depending on a logical level signal for a time t0Wt1 and synthesis is effected to produce a signal 3a. The signal 1b is averaged by a smoothing circuit 4. The signal 3a is divided at 7 by the output 4a of the smoothing circuit. Polarity is selected by a selector circuit 8 depending on the polarity of the output 5a of a discrimination circuit 5 corresponding to the phase difference between the changed voltage signal 2a and the changed current signal 6b, thereby obtaining an output 8a corresponding to a power-factor of cosϕ. This results in accurately detecting the power-factor through a simple circuit construction.
