Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain stable half-tone pictures without any influence of fluctuations of photosensitivity characteristics on a recording and display surface, by using a scan system which varies the number of dots of a scanning beam. CONSTITUTION:A beam emitted from semiconductor laser light source 2 is incident to the thin-film wave directing path of optical element 1. The light beam in the wave directing path is collimated by geodesic lens 3 and the parallel beam is deflected by the Bragg diffraction with a surface elastic wave generated by comb type electrode 5. This deflected light beam is focused via geodesic lens 4 to form a light spot on the projection end surface of the wave directing path. The formed image spot is scanned by rotary polygon mirror 7 at right angles to the main scan direction to draw the locus of the light beam on photosensitive drum 9. The optical output of laser 2 is turned ON/OFF synchronizing with the deflection of this optical element. The drive like this provides gradations of the density of the light dot.
