Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the titled device to be coupled with a turbo generator by a method wherein a water wheel is rotated by utilizing the natural energy of the ocean current, air is introduced into water by utilizing the turning torque of the water wheel and is compressed by hydraulic pressure, then the compressed air is stored under water and is taken out when required.
CONSTITUTION: Buckets 5 are fitted to a horizontal shaft type water wheel 4 which is rotated by the ocean current. In this case, the position of each of the buckets 5 is so set that it emerges above the water level during the rotation of the wheel 4. The bucket 5 is filled with air when it is above the water level, and the pressure of the air in the bucket 5 becomes maximum when the bucket 5 reaches the lowest position in water. In the proximity of the lowest position, the air in the bucket 5 is transferred into a compressed-air receiver 6, from which it is fed into a tank 3 and collects at an upper part of the tank 3, expelling the sea water from the tank 3 through a hole 15 and generating a buoyancy in the tank 3. In order to maintain the tank 3 at an approximately fixed underwater position in balance with the buoyancy, sea water is fed into a float 1 by a water injector 16. When a valve 7 is opened after an appropriate amount of compressed air is collected in the tank 3, the compressed air is heated by a combustor 9 and rotates a gas turbine 10, generating power at a generator 11.
