Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the structure of exhaust-gas purifying system and to lower the manufacturing costs, by employing an arrangement capable of controlling both of ignition timing and recirculation of exhaust gas on the basis of different temperatures of cooling water by means of a single vacuum controlling device.
CONSTITUTION: When the temperature of cooling water is lower than, for instance, 35°C, valve 20 of vacuum controlling device 10 is located at its lower position by the function of spring 22. In this state, port 24 is closed but ports 23, 25 are opened. Therefore, suction vacuum in carburetor 1 is transmitted directly to passage 11, so that timing of distributor 12 is advanced by timing control means 13. Further, since passage 7 is communicated to the atmosphere, EGR passage 27 is closed by EGR valve 8. When the temperature of cooling water is raised subsequently to a level higher than, for instance, 70°C as the engine is warmed up, valve 20 is moved upward by thermostat 18 against the force of spring 22 and closes port 25. Resultantly, suction vacuum is acted to the EGR valve 8, so that valve 8 is opened.
