Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a reproduced picture by reducing a cross modulation component, which causes troubles when a color signal and luminance singal are both FM-modulated and frequency multiplexed for magnetic recording, by providing the method of canceling the amount of cross modulation. CONSTITUTION:A luminance signal and color signal are FM-modulated by modulators 1 and 2 respectively and the sum signal of outputs of modulators 1 and 2 obtained by adder 3 is amplified before being recorded through a head. A reproduced signal is led out of a head. This signal includes a cross modulation component based upon the tertiary distortion of the tape head system. This reproduced signal is passed through limiter 5 to obtain the cross modulation component from limiter 5. This is passed through band-pass filter 6 to extract only the cross modulation component. Since the output of BPF6 includes the side band component of an FM luminance signal, slicer 7 extracts only the cross modulation component. Then, the cross modulation component of delay line 8 and that from slicer 7 are removed by subtracting.
