Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve grinding efficiency and tolerance to ageing of a free grinding resinoid grinder by forming and hardening said grinder with novolak and resol, both containing a high percentage of ortho, as a bonding agent of abrasive.
CONSTITUTION: High ortho phenol resin is used as a bonding agent of abrasive. For novolak, a phenol resin with the ratio of ortho to para O/P of more than 1.0, desirably more than 1.5, is used. Since the ratio of ortho to para is generally high (O/P>1.0) in case of resol, the phenol resin with the ratio of desirably more than 2.0 is used. For production of this sort of resinoid grinder, a high ortho type of novolak including about 10% additional hexamethylenetetramine, is crushed into minute powder and mixed with abrasive, such as amine and the like, which is wetted by a resol. Subsequently, the mixture is formed in a given metallic mold and hardened by heat. Thus, grinding efficiency as well as tolerance to ageing may be improved.
