Abstract

PURPOSE: To supply axially long-sized casting cam shafts without large-sized molds by jointing segment members of casting cam shafts and installing a steel-made joint gear.
CONSTITUTION: A casting cam shaft with cams 1 and 2, consists of segmental casting cam shafts A and B, and a steel-made joint gear 3. The joint gear 3 is provided with a convex part 4 at the both ends. The convexes parts are jointed by concave parts 5 made at the both ends of the segmental casting cam shafts A and B, thereby forming an integrated welded casting (welded at 9). The integrated welded casting method ensures the fabrication of axially long-sized casting cam shafts without long- sized molds, requiring no induction hardening and removing hardening failures.
