Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency of power generation by a method wherein the three factors of the diameter of the float, the diameter of a central pipe and the length of the central pipe below the water level are rated in predetermined ratios so that a wide zone of wave cycle can be utilized for power generation.
CONSTITUTION: In the captioned wave electric power generating aparatus comprising the hollow float 1 arranged on the water, the central pipe 2 passing through the center of the float 1 with its lower end opening in the underlying still water undisturbed by waves and an air turbine generator driven by an air current generating within the central pipe due to the vertical movements of the float 1 which is subject to waves, there are estabilished among the dimensions of the float and the central pipe such relationships that the ratio of the diameter D of the float to the diameter (d) of the central pipe 2 is 1.8W3.5 and the ratio of the effective length (the length below the water level) of the central pipe 2 to the diameter (d) thereof is 1.8W3.5. Accordingly, the output ratio of the apparatus with respect to an effective wave cycle of 2W10sec is always maintained at above 1 as shown in the drawing and a high power output can be obtained from a wide zone of wave cycle.
