Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily obtain n-paraffin with reduced aromatic content by using a desorbing agent contg. an aromatic hydrocabon to separate n-paraffin from a hydrocarbon contg. n-paraffin.
CONSTITUTION: In a method wherein a molecular sieve such as zeolite is used to separate n-paraffin from a hydrocarbon mixture contg. n-paraffin, iso-paraffin, and aromatic hydrocarbons, a desorbing agent contg. an aromatic hydrocarbon having a different b.p. than the above n-paraffin. The above hydrocarbon mixture consists of 5W30C hydrocarbons of petroleum fractions such as gasoline, kerosine, and gas oil. The above desorbing agent preferably includes zeolite having an average pore size of 5Å, which is available commercially. The aromatic hydrocarbon contained in the above desorbing agent is a polycyclic condensed aromatic hydrocarbon, a polycyclic non-condensed aromatic hydrocarbon, etc.
