Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the electrolyte-holding ability of a separator made of either a woven cloth or a non-woven cloth, by subjecting both a usual fiber, and a hydrophilic resin fiber having holes which open into its side to mix spinning, bofore the separator is made by use of thus operated union yarn. CONSTITUTION:A battery includes a separator impregnated with electrolyte. The separator is made of either a woven cloth or a non-woven cloth, which is prepared from union yarn consisting of both an electrolyte resistant resin fiber such as polyprolylene fiber, and a hydrophilic resin fiber 1 such as acrylic resin fiber. The hydrophilic resin fiber 1 has holes 2 some of which open into its side. For instance, the diameter of the hole 2 is below 1-2mum, the length of the hole 2 is about 10 times its diameter, and the ratio of the area of the holes 2 to that of the whole fibers is 20-30%.
