PURPOSE:To ease the accuracies of the width, buliding into housings and assembling of magnetic core halves by differing the information track width direction size of the magnetic core widths and inserting the magnetic core half having a smaller size into a housing having the groove pierced to the core width size. CONSTITUTION:The width of a magnetic core half 4 is set smaller than the width of a magnetic core half 3 built with shield plates 5 and the effective track width is always determined by both end parts of the half 4. The half 4 is inserted into a both end parts of the half 4. The half 4 is inserted into a housing 2 having a groove pierced roughly to the core width size whereby track pitch is specified. The leakage of magnetic flux of this magnetic head from the half 3 to the half 4 of the uncommon parts with half 3 is about 1% the effective magnetic flux and this hardly gives adverse influence upon the accuracies of the track width and pitch.
