Abstract

PURPOSE: To automate work, reduce time and improve quality by specifying the composition of overlaying weld metal and overlay-welding the same in a straight- pipe state then bending the pipe.
CONSTITUTION: The inside surface of a straight pipe is overlay-welded in such a manner that the composition of the weld metal consists of 18W22% Cr equiv. and 9W16 Ni equiv. and ≤10% ferrite in Schaeffler's diagram. A straight pipe 4 having this overlay weld metal 5 is formed to an elbow 6 of a one-piece shape. If the overlay weld mtal is within the above-described composition range, cracking by bending does not occur. Since the overlay welding of the inside surface can be made in the straight pipe state in this way, this method is easily adaptable to automatic welding, and no skill is required for the work.
