Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce material cost, expand operating range and simplity structure, by shortening element and eliminating necessity of spring material for electrical connection. CONSTITUTION:Both inside and outside surfaces of a container 2 of a zirconia element 1 are provided with porous platinum layers for electrodes, and a joint 3 is provided on the top. Inside and outside tapered surfaces 4 and 5 and a joint surface 6 are also provided with platinum layers. The zirconia element 1 and a holder 10, which is composed of an electrical insulating material having an excellent resistivity against thermal shock, are joined together through a platinum ring 14 located between a joint surface 11 and a joint surface 6 of the element 1. A piercing hole 15 is provided on the center of the holder 10 to form a reference air chamber 16. A current-collecting ring 11, which collects current in contact with the platinum layer on inside surface of the element 1, is maintained by being caught between the tapered surfaces 4 and 13. By the tapered surface 32 and 5 on the bottom inside of a holding hardware 26 which holds a sensor main composed of the zirnonia element 1, the holder 10 and the reference air chamber 16, a current-collecting ring 33 is caught and held in such a state that the outside surface of the element 1 is in contact with the platinum layer.
