Abstract
PURPOSE:To largely shorten measuring time, by measuring molecular weight of macromolecular substance by detecting shear stress of a synthetic macromolecular substance specimen provided with treatment, in advance, for adjustment of crystalline difference. CONSTITUTION:As to a particular molecular substance, shear stresses of respective molecular weights are measured, and a chart showing the correlation between the molecular weight and the shear stress (working curve) is prepared. And then, by using a shape knifelike object 2, shearing is done on a synthetic macromolecular substance specimen 1, of the same kind with unknown molecular weight, which is provided with treatment for adjustment so as not to have any crystalline difference from the specimen on which the working curve has been prepared, and a stress- displacement curve is sought. From this graph, a stress is read when the specimen's molecular weight is unknown, and a molecular weight is sought from the stress value by utilizing the working curve. By doing so, once a working curve is prepared, any measurement of molecular weight of synthetic macromolecular substance of the same kind after that time can be done quickly and accurately.
