Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a sprinkling condition according to the amount of water and prevent a lowering in sprinkling efficiency by a method wherein the area of sprinkling onto the top face of a filling is changed in accordance with a change of water level in a hot-water tank.
CONSTITUTION: Circulated cooling water having become hot water is introduced into the hot-water tank 3 and is sprinkled onto the filling 2 through nozzle holes provided at the bottom part of the tank 3, whereby it is cooled. Partition plates 4 are arranged in the hot-water tank 3 in such a manner that the height of the plates 4 increases gradually from the side of the inflow of hot water. When the amount of hot water is larger, the water level in the tank 3 becomes higher than all of the partition plates 4 so that water is sprinkled through the nozzles holes of all of the partitioned chambers. When the water level is lowered below one of the plates 4 because of a reduction in the amount of water, the inflow of hot water into the partitioned chamber at a higher position as compared to said plate 4 decreases, so that the area of sprinkling is reduced. In addition, the blasting amount of a fan 5 is also changed in accordance with the change of the sprinkling area.
