Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform welding which does not cause scattering of spatter at the welding arc firing by generating the high-frequency arc for firing between a consumable electrode and welding base metals then shifting the same to the welding arc.
CONSTITUTION: The gap (G) between the tip of a wire electrode 10 and welding base metals 16 is set larger than the arc discharge starting gap G0 for welding. Next, when 3-phase AC is supplied to the primary side of a transformer 22 and single phase AC to the primary side of a boosting transformer 40, the high-frequency high voltage by a high-frequency electric source 30, the DC voltage by an auxiliary power source 20-2, and the voltage of the prescribed waveform by a main welding power source 20-1 are applied across the wire electrode 10 and the welding base metals 16. Next, a wire feeder 12 is started to start feeding the wire electrode 10, by which the gap G is narrowed and the discharge by the high-frequency power source 30 is successively shifted to the discharge by the auxiliary power source 20-2 and to the discharge by the welding power source 20-1.
