Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the increase in background of radioactivity and improve the accuracy of measurement by heating a sintered metallic pipe, injecting clean water through the pipe wall and boiling the same in atomic power plants and radioactivity handling facilities. CONSTITUTION:Waste water enters from 1 and flows to a discharge port 27 through the pump 26 of a measuring part piping 9. A sintered metallic pipe 16 and an electrode 21 are installed to the piping 9, and a waste water piping 15 is insulated by means of an insulator 24 and a measuring part outside cylinder 23 by means of an insulator 22. Clean water enters the inside of the outside cylinder 23 from a clean water tank 12. Since the sintered metallic pipe is heated when conducted with current, the clean water past the fine holes causes boiling, thereby forming a bubble layer of fixed thickness between the waste water and the sintered metallic pipe. Although there is a radiation detector on the outer side of the measuring part 23, the waste water and the sintered metallic pipe are isolated by the clean water and the layer of bubbles produced by this, hence there is no increase in the background. Hence, the accuracy of measurement is improved by such constitution.
