Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent spatters from clinging to the inside surface of the cylinder of a buffer for a two-wheeled vehicle or the like when the cylinder and a lower cap are welded on each other, by providing a gap between the chamfered part of the cylinder and the step of the lower cap. CONSTITUTION:A chamfered part 11 is provided on the inside edge of a cylinder 1. A fitting step 12 is provided on the end of a lower cap 2 which is to be inserted into the cylinder 1 through the chamfered part 11. A gap for preventing spark discharge is provided between the chamfered part 11 and the fitting step 12. The outside diameter D of the welded part of the lower cap 2 is made slightly smaller than that (d) of the cylinder 1. The cylinder 1 is held on the peripheral surface by a clamp electrode 4. The lower cap 2 is pressed downward by an upper electrode 3. An electrical current is caused to flow through the electrodes 3, 4, the cylinder 1 and the cap 2 while the cylinder 1 and the cap 2 are pressed on each other. The lower cap 2 and the cylinder 1 are thus resistance-welded on each other, without letting spatters cling to the inside surface of the cylinder 1, as the cap 2 is pushed into the cylinder 1.
