Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a mixture rich in the E isomer useful as an intermediate for agricultural and horticultural germicides, by treating the Z-isomer of triazole compound geometrical isomers or a mixture of the E-isomer rich in the Z-isomer with the Z-isomer with an aromatic mercaptan, a basic reagent, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The Z-isomer of a compound expressed by formula I (X is halogen; n is 1 or 2) or a mixture of the E-isomer rich in the Z-isomer with the Z-isomer is treated with a compound of formula II or III (W, Y and Z are halogen, 1W4C alkyl, NH2 or NO2; q is an integer 0W5; l and m are integers 0W4), e.g. thiophenol, or a basic reagent, e.g. NaOH, at 0°C to the reflux temperature to give an isomeric mixture with an increased content of the E-isomer. The use of a solvent, e.g. methanol or benzene, is required for advancing the reaction smoothly, and the amount of the aromatic mercaptan is 10W70mol% based on the compound of formula I.
