Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a treating agnet for water dispersible glass fibers capable of very easily dispersing in an aqueous medium at a filamentary state by using an acrylamide-vinyl acetate copolymer as an essential component.
CONSTITUTION: This treating agent for water dispersible glass fibers is made of acrylamide-vinyl acetate copolymer obtd. by polymerizing acrylamide and vinyl acetate to 200W20,000 degree of polymn. in 1/4W4/1 molar ratio. When glass fibers are treated with this agent, glass strands having high suitablity to cutting and bundling are obtd. and they gather no mold. When this agent is added to glass fibers in an aqueous medium, the fibers are thoroughly dispersed at a filamentary state in a much shorter time. Accordingly, the work efficiency in the manufacture of glass paper, glass fiber reinforced hydraulic inorg. products, etc. and the quality are enhanced.
