Abstract

PURPOSE: To compensate the nonlinearity of recording media and to reduce the distortion, by changing the form of nonlinearity of hysteresis curve of magnetic medium according to the strength of high frequency bias.
CONSTITUTION: Two bias sources 32, 33 are provided and respectively 100kHz and 50kHz are taken in recording the audio signal. Further, 100kHz is amplitude- modulated in 50kHz at the amplitude modulator 36 and the output is fed to the recording head 37 together with the output of the signal source 35. Accordingly, by selecting the modulation degree so that the valley of modulation has the characteristics of the relation between the signal recording current and the reproduced output when bias current is small and the height of modulation has those of relation between the signal recording current and the reproduced output when the bias current is increased, both characteristics are commonly used to obtain a linear response, allowing to record and reproduce the signal without distortion.
