Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the color developing property and the resistance against an unusual change during preservation of the duplicating paper, by a method wherein phenol having at least three functionalities is blended with formaldehyde of condensate. CONSTITUTION:A reaction intermediate is obtained by the reaction between formaldehyde and a p-substituted phenol having a small reactivity with formaldehyde under an acidic condition until 70-100% formaldehyde is consumed. Then a phenol having at least three functionalities is added to the reaction intermediate and they are reacted with formaldehyde remaining in the system to complete the reaction. The pressure-sensitive duplicating paper coated with microcapsules containing a developer prepared as above has a high solubility in a solvent contained in the microcapsule and therefore its color intensity immediately after the color development is remarkably high.
