Abstract
PURPOSE: To automatically and uniformly grind the internal wall of a cast iron pipe, straight or elbow, by keeping the rotation axis of a grinding head centered in the cross section of the pipe.
CONSTITUTION: For internal grinding of a cast iron elbow 29, the elbow 29 is erected in a through hole 32 of a horizontal rotary bed (C), with its opening 30 being positioned in the radical direction and kept opposed to an opening 31 of a guide cylinder 26 of grinding head. A driving shaft head (A) is shifted on a machine bed 1 to advance a grinding head (B) into the elbow 29 for internal grinding. At this moment, the head (B) is held by a flexible bushing 24, and a rotary shaft 14 of grinding wheel fitted to the grinding head (B) advances while being kept centered in the cross section of the elbow 29 by means of flat spring 22 attached at equal pitches around a journal box 13 and of discs 25 attached at equal distances around the bushing 24, which assures uniform and precise internal grinding of the pipe.
